KHEMARE DUNCAN: FINDING HIS VOICE
AND FUTURE
Khemare Duncan speaks with confidence and
convition. “I do well in school. I have over a 100
average, and I want to be an entrepreneur.” That
confidence began years ago, when the introverted
eighth grader from Brooklyn joined PeacePlayers
for extra basketball practice. “On my first day, I felt
like I was a PeacePlayer,” he says.
What kept him coming back was community —
and the opportunity for growth. “It’s not just
basketball,”
Khemare
explains.
Through
leadership roles, Career Summits, and the
Friendship Games, he met people from around the
world, expanding his sense of possibility. “It taught
me how to be a leader on the court, which
transferred to how I conduct myself off the court.”
Once “very introverted,” Khemare found his voice.
“PeacePlayers gave me a space to speak, a space
to share my ideas openly.” Mentors like Coach
Matt modeled authentic leadership. “You’re the
first person I've ever seen speak confidently… the
same inside and outside PeacePlayers.”
Academically, he soared — from an 81 average to
105 — and now he’s poised to become the first
person in his family to go to college. Reflecting
back, his advice is simple: “If you work harder
than everybody else, you will get better results than
everybody else.”
