LOCAL SPOTLIGHT
SOUTH AFRICA
In 2025, PeacePlayers South Africa, in partnership
with The Victor Daitz Foundation, unveiled two newly
built basketball courts at Carrington Primary School in
Umbilo and Excelsior Primary School in Mobeni
Heights, expanding access to safe, high-quality
spaces for sport in under-resourced communities
across greater Durban. More than places to play,
these courts serve as hubs for connection,
opportunity, and youth development.
At Carrington Primary—a PeacePlayers partner
school for more than 20 years—the new court
was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony
attended by learners, teachers, and community
members. Leaders highlighted the court’s
potential to strengthen school sport programs,
nurture young talent, and serve as a central
gathering place for local youth.
Meanwhile, the fully rebuilt court at Excelsior Primary transformed a once-dilapidated space
into a vibrant community asset. Together, these courts will host PeacePlayers programming
and Cross-Community Peace League games, empowering young people, strengthening
communities, and creating new pathways for leadership through sport.
“I am a proud principal today because of you. We look forward to
working together to uplift our school. Without sports, there is no
school. Sport teaches you discipline, teamwork, and respect.”
Nzwakazi Mbonambi, Principal of Carrington Primary
