PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
NELSON MANDELA CAPTURE SITE AND MUSEUM
Exchange participants pondered the notion of freedom when
they visited the spot where Nelson Mandela was arrested for
昀椀ghting apartheid. At the Capture Site museum, they learned
about the history of oppression in South Africa and the 昀椀ght
for freedom and equality for all.
COACHING IN THE COMMUNITY
Young leaders coached the next generation of PeacePlayers
at South Africa partner schools Sukuma Primary and
Bhekaphambili. At Sukuma, children greeted the Exchange
team with Zulu and Indian dances, and Amagwijo singing.
NELSON MANDELA DAY SOCIAL ACTION PROJECT
At Lamula Primary School, Global Exchange participants
worked with school children to design, measure, tape and
paint the school court, making a positive mark on the
community of Molweni and contributing to the legacy of
Nelson Mandela.
CITY-WIDE TOURNAMENT
Global Exchange youth volunteered and competed at the
City-Wide Tournament (CWT) at Hoy Park, an annual event
that brings together hundreds of children from across greater
Durban for a high-energy day of basketball and community
