EXCHANGE
In July 2024, PeacePlayers youth from Northern Ireland and the United States
joined their peers in Durban, South Africa for 10 transformative days of cultural
learning, leadership development and movement building. The 2024 Global
Exchange marked a historic moment for our organization– the 昀椀rst time that
PeacePlayers South Africa hosted youth from other PeacePlayers sites and the
昀椀rst time that youth from other sites got to encounter the people, culture and
natural beauty of South Africa. Participants developed a deep appreciation
and connection with the people, culture, and history of South Africa, gaining
a heightened understanding of what it truly means to be a PeacePlayer. The
sixteen participants from the United States participated through the U.S.
Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Sports Visitor
Program. The Global Exchange was also supported by Brand South Africa.
“I went in as a participant, and I came out as a leader. I feel like being
around so many young people aspiring to be young leaders has de昀椀nitely
changed me. And when I came back to school, I signed up to be a mentor
[for younger children].”
